introduction

alright… here’s the idea

I’ve begun this blog so that we can continue to talk about the thoughts and ideas thrown around at church and in youth group.  It is my hope that we can take seriously what it means to continue to be Christians outside the walls of the church.  The youth group is called Into The World Ministries and I think this would be a great place to start conversation.

If you noticed, the header on this site is a crossed-through circle.  A lot of the time, I think that we apply this symbol to the world – calling it ‘worldly’ and judging it.  So, here is the first question I think it would good to talk about: What is our relationship (as Christians) to the World?

And just for fun – and maybe to help think about this question – let’s do this poll:

I think that a lot of times Christians hole themselves up in the church and stay in their comfortable groups, but we were meant to go and spead the gospel. So why do we do this? I personaly think a major reason is because people disapprove of associating with people of lower standards, but how are you supposed to spread the gospel if you’re not even willing to do what Jesus did: served others who were below him? If we could throw off the mind set that we have to only go to certain places and talk to certain people then we can truly begin to grasp the concept of serving others, and not just our fellow Christians. Another reason I think we like to dissasociate ourselves with the worldly is because we fear that we may fall into sin because of it, and that is a valid concern. The key is to know that God will never tempt you more than you can bear (1st Corinthians 10:13).

    Well taht’s all i got! :D

I think that this quote is a great way to show value,”Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Sometime I like I need to shrink for others. I think that is something that our youth group is good at doing.
